Alamo Greed and Occupy Wall Street

The recent Occupy Wall Street Movement has reached the San Antonio area and beyond as tens of millions of people have demonstrated against the greed of millionaires that have push our country into an abyss. The Occupy Wall Street movement has challenged the Tea Party as a bunch of fake politicians that are being bankrolled by some of the big corporations to push an agenda that is pro-big greedy business and anti-people, while claiming to be a grassroots movement. You can’t be a grassroots movement with corporate money falling out of your britches! The Occupy Wall Street Movement has indeed sweep the world, while in this country hundreds of thousands have snapped the Tea Party Trojan Horse effort and exposed the real problems of why the economy is in such bad shape—years of greed by wealthy businessmen and their Republican Party-Tea Party bushwhackers!
The recent Occupy Wall Street movement has been growing in the San Antonio area as hundreds converged on the Alamo this past weekend. It was a fitting place to end a rally as the Alamo represents the greed of slave owners who perpetuated and fastened slavery upon Texas after stealing and occupying Mexican lands. Mexico abolished slavery in 1829, and as a result slavers from across the country invaded the state and began a war that instituted slavery in Texas. The first Anglo Texas constitution of 1836, under the boot of pro-slavery men, reinstated slavery and Texas would become a slave state in 1845. The greed of the early Texas settlers would lead to lynching, brutality, and secession from the United States in 1860. As a result of pro-slavery greed, Texas would illegally join the Confederate States of America in order to keep the pro-business planters in operation. The agricultural cotton trade would force many Anglo immigrants into believing that slavery was the American Dream. Most Texas settlers never made it to that dream, as many were unable to purchase slaves, but the “dream” of being a slave owner and owning land that was stolen from Mexico was the motivation for the misnamed Texas War of Independence. It was for “independence” to promote the institution of slavery! The Occupy Wall Street rally in San Antonio ended at the right place! The Alamo represents the ultimate in greed as it was principally about slavery. Jim Bowie, David Crockett, William Travis were all connected to the slave trade and greedily pushed a pro-slavery agenda upon Texas.
The Tea Party has had rallies where they have brandished weapons and yet there was no outcry from the likes of Sara Palin, Michelle Bachmann, and other right-wingers about such activity, but when the Occupy Wall Street protesters moved into the Wall Street area and Zuccotti Park in New York, the Tea Party rascals were quick to call the American people a “mob.” We have been showered with Tea Party propaganda for months, and mob-like activity, so it remains a real stretch of a case of the “kettle calling the pot black.” Tea Party propagandists have made racist comments and have carried racist signs at their rallies in their bigoted attacks against Obama and others. In pretending to be some sort of patriotic movement the Tea Party has only succeeded in polarizing America along racial and class lines. However, it looks like the tide is turning against the Tea Party as millions across the globe are placing the reasons for the global economic melt-down on the backs of the wealthy and the greedy. Pure greed has put the entire world in jeopardy as the millionaires and billionaires refuse to pay their fair share of taxes, and have shipped millions of jobs overseas while trying to crush organized labor.
The Tea Party has sought to blame Obama for the economic mess we are in, but those of us who are politically educated know that years of pro-business policies on the part of the Bush administration gave away the bank. Obama inherited years of policies that allowed the rich to escape paying taxes and to move to foreign lands where they could exploit workers in other countries by paying dirt-poor wages. When viewed from this perspective, the Tea Party is nothing but a party supported by greed in democratic disguise, much like the propaganda about the Battle of the Alamo being for “freedom and justice.” The Occupy Wall Street demonstrations have awakened a democratic spirit similar to what has happened across the Middle East. One might call the American version of the “Arab Spring” a “Democratic Awakening” against the 1% that control 99% of the wealth. The greed by the Wall Street bankers and others knows no bounds as the policy of “hand over fist dollars” is the driving force of the wealthy. The wealthy have put the world in jeopardy through policies that they promote through lobbyists. Enough money has been passed around and has only succeeded in getting us into wars that have no end.
The Occupy Wall Street Movement deserves our support. Finally, we are seeing a genuine push to expose the real reasons for our economic demise and lay the blame squarely where it belongs. The greedy have dominated our society and have pushed the planet to the brink. Unbridled greed has been the hallmark of the Republican policy makers and their Tea Party mouth pieces, but a genuine grassroots movement has finally been born to take our country back from the Red Coat Tea Party and their Koch Brother sponsors. If the global economy is to improve the wealthy must not be allowed to control public policy. They have shown that the America comes last on their agenda in their drive to become richer and richer, Just like the greed that that lead the wealthy slave owning class to the Battle of the Alamo, with their slave plantation aims, so too are billionaires of today hell-bent on robbing us of our democracy.
